Probabilistic Shaping-Based Spatial Modulation for Spectral-Efficient VLC

Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology for 6th-generation (6G) networks because of its attractive feature such as wide unlicensed spectrum. In this paper, novel adaptive coded spatial modulation scheme with probabilistic shaping (PS) proposed to approach the capacity (SM) in visible channels intensity and direct detection (IM/DD). scheme, constellation symbols are probabilistically shaped depending on user’s location inside room optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR). Moreover, we optimize channel coding rate maximize further achievable given OSNR. Finally, propose an algorithm compute capacity-achieving distribution unipolar $M$ -ary pulse amplitude (PAM) signaling. The outperforms uniform orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) based terms spectral efficiency (SE) and/or frame error (FER). For example, 8-PAM signaling notation="LaTeX">$N=8$ transmit antennas, operates within 0.2 dB from -PAM SM VLC OFDM schemes FER by at least 1.1 1.3 normalized data 1.33 bits per use sub-carrier (b/cu/sc), respectively.
